Pickleball ACT offers sessions for every skill level — from first-time beginners to advanced players preparing for tournaments. Our levels help you find games that match your ability and keep play enjoyable, competitive, and fair.
If you’re unsure where to start, book a Beginner session or chat to a session host — we’ll help you find the right fit.
Beginner (B) – Just starting out
You're new to pickleball and learning the fundamentals.
- Learning the basic rules, strokes, and scoring
- Working on consistency and control
- Plays mostly with other beginners
Best for: Beginner, Intro & Social Sessions.
Next step: When you can serve consistently, keep short rallies, and follow scoring confidently, move to a Developing session.
Developing (D) – Starting to rally and play games
You’ve got the basics down and can keep a rally going.
- Can serve and return consistently
- Understands basic positioning and shot selection
- Beginning to control shots but still makes frequent errors
Best for: Social & Mixed-Level Sessions.
Next step: Once you can sustain consistent rallies under pressure and control transitions to the kitchen, try an Intermediate session.
Intermediate (I) – Can rally and play strategically
You can play full games with some strategy and consistency.
- Controls shots and placement with moderate consistency
- Uses dinks, volleys, and third-shot drops at times
- Beginning to understand strategy and movement
Best for: Mixed-Level & Intermediate Sessions
Next step: When you can reliably apply strategy and adapt mid-rally, step into Advanced sessions or leagues and social competitions.
Advanced (A) – Plays with strategy and confidence
You play at a high level with strong skills and game sense.
- Consistently places shots with accuracy and intent
- Uses dinking, volleys, and third-shot drops effectively
- Reads opponents, moves efficiently, and controls pace
Best for: Advanced & Competitive Sessions

Intro to Pickleball & Social Play (Beginner – Developing)
- Perfect for beginners and those developing their skills in a fun and welcoming environment.
- Learn the basics, improve your confidence, and enjoy casual games.
Intermediate Social Play (Developing– Intermediate)
- For players who have a solid understanding of the game and want to refine their skills while
playing social but competitive games.
Tournament sessions (Intermediate – Advanced)
- Designed for players looking to take their game to the next level with drills, strategy, and match
play to prepare for competition.
Social competitions and leagues (Intermediate – Advanced)
- A step up from casual play, this session is for those who enjoy structured games with a bit more
competition while still keeping it fun and social.
Singles, Skinny Singles & Social Doubles (Intermediate – Advanced)
- A mix of singles, skinny singles, and doubles for players who want to work on shot placement,
fitness, and strategy across different formats of the game.
Experienced Players (Advanced)
- For advanced players who are confident in their skills and strategy. Expect high-level gameplay, strong competition, and fast-paced rallies.

Progressing between levels
Players improve at different rates — progress comes naturally with consistency and game time.
If you’re unsure whether to move up, ask a session host or coach for guidance. We’ll help ensure you’re playing in the level that’s most rewarding for you (and your opponents!).

No matter your level, our courts are built on respect and fun.
Please:
- Be encouraging and welcoming to all players
- Play fair and rotate courteously
- Keep competition positive and inclusive
- Remember — it’s called pickleball, not pressureball!
