So many people gave so much of their time to make the Masters Games our best tournament yet. Thank you again for volunteering and helping make the Games such a success. With 450 competitors aged over 50, we had 3 days of action-packed competition. The Games were a great example of the spirit and comraderie which underlies Pickleball. Congratulations to everyone that competed, and to our many medallists from PACT.

All our volunteers did a wonderful job over the 3 days of the Masters Games. But one particular person deserves an extra mention. Ian Boxall is our oldest member and a committed volunteer. For the last 3 tournaments Ian has arrived by 7am every day, working in the scoring room, until the very last score has been entered. By the end of the weekend you can see in Ian’s face how much energy he has contributed, he is happy with the contribution he has made, and he is exhausted. Whilst the above is impressive, his excellent mathematical brain, his highly developed understanding of computer systems, his expert questioning of the Tournament Director in an effort to understand more, and his gentle teaching and guidance of beginners is outstanding. He is unflappable, generous, considerate and by all accounts, a bloody legend! Well done Ian!

Yes, the Pickleball ACT logo has changed. We were all very attached to our original logo, but in the interests of supporting Pickleball Australia and their uniform branding across the whole of Australia, the committee elected to make the change. PACT is both the ACT representative association for Pickleball, and a club with 1,000+ playing members. This change was more difficult than all other states with no club attached. Our marketing team headed by Alicia Murphy believes we can still retain our local club feel through the use of our Pickleroos mascot. Alicia will be releasing more details soon.

Everyone is doing a great job using the purple bins at the Pickledome to recycle all 10c deposit containers. We are trying to educate Futsal and they are slowly changing their habits! To add to our recycling theme, you can now take your 10c deposit containers to any Returnit collection point in Canberra, and choose for your donations to go to Pickleball ACT in the drop down menu. So now you can support our local Pickleball community, whilst doing the right thing!

Members may have noticed that when they renew their PACT membership there is now an option to make a tax free donation to our new juniors support program. Thank you to the members that have already contributed. As we role out our juniors program in 2026, we would like to be in a position to support some of our talented up and coming juniors by investing in their development. The donations received will be held separately, and will be used exclusively for our juniors.

We are starting to experience a significant amount of damage to our barriers. Five barriers were broken just in the last week. We would like to remind members that they were expensive, and took a lot of work to procure through a government grant, and through Brett Barton's considerable sponsorship. I know players want to try and return every ball at all costs, but can we please be just a bit more considerate of the club's property. We have provided run-off areas for most of the courts that are internationally recommended.

There are only 4 weeks to go to our final tournament of the year. We have 386 players entered, and are hoping to see at least 400 before close of entries. We will also be introducing the new Pickleball Tournaments software with all games, court allocation and scoring done through players' mobile phones. If you haven't played in a tournament before, why not give it a try. There are brackets for all ages and all skill levels. And with 798 medals on offer over the 3 days, and I'm sure one of them has your name on it!
